Coaching Staff

Head Coach-Tom Stanton
0BE36B53-0118C716_003Coach Stanton is entering his 11th season as the Sharks Head Baseball Coach. In that time, Coach Stanton has guided the Sharks to 5 District Championships, 3 Regional Championships, and three Final Four appearances (2010, 2012, 2013) including back-to-back state title game appearances which include winning the 2013 Class 5A State Championship. Prior to coming to Ponte Vedra High, Coach Stanton coached seven years at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville where he held the title of the Assistant Head Coach and was part program that the 2006 Class 3A State Championship . Coach Stanton has experience at many levels of baseball. He was a catcher in the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. He has collegiate experience as a hitting and catching instructor at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. He graduated from Middleburg High School and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida in Sports Management. Coach Stanton also is a Dean of Students at Ponte Vedra High School.
Coach Stanton is married to his wife Kimberley and they have a son Caleb (10).


Assistant Coach-Charles Cerrato
0BE36B53-0118C716Coach Cerrato is entering his 11th year as an assistant baseball coach at PVHS. Coach Cerrato’s duties include working with hitters, infielders, as well as coaching 1st base. He grew up in South Florida, played college ball at Nova Southeastern University. Coached at Cypress Bay High School (won a State Championship in 2004) for six years before moving to St. Augustine in May of ’08. coach Cerrato’s father, Ralph Cerrato, coaches football at Ponte Vedra High School.  Coach Cerrato is also the PVHS ESE Department Head and is married to his wife Meredith Cerrato and they have a daughter Jadin (14) and son Reece (7).

Assistant Coach-Alex Martinez

Coach Martinez (known as A-Mar by most) is beginning his 1st season as a member of the PV Shark Baseball coaching staff.  He was born and raised in New York and graduated from Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, NY.  He moved to Jacksonville in 2006 to attend and play baseball at Jacksonville University where he played first base for the Dolphins. A-Mar played all 4 years and graduated with a Major in Sociology and minor in Physical Education. Coach Martinez has a wonderful family with his beautiful wife Kelly, son Jordan (9) and Daughter Brooklyn (2).

Assistant Coach-Elliott Warford

Elliott Warford is entering his 2nd year as an assistant baseball coach at PVHS and will help guide the pitching program for the Sharks. Elliott grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and graduated from PVHS in 2011. While at PVHS, Elliott was a member of the inaugural varsity baseball team and the first PVHS baseball team to make it to the Final Four while becoming a 3-year Varsity letter man playing under Coach Stanton & Coach Cerrato.  In 2009 Elliott was named 2nd Team All District/Honorable Mention All County, and in 2010 & 2011 was named to the 1st Team All District/1st Team All County. Elliott was a 2-time recipient of the PVHS Cy Young Award. Elliott went on to play Division-I baseball at Furman University from 2011-2015. During his time at Furman, he was named to the Freshman All-Conference Team in 2011, the 2011 Southern Conference All-Tournament Team, and was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.  Elliott was also named to the All-Tournament Team in 2015, and was 2nd Team All Southern Conference. Elliott was named the Furman Baseball Team Captain his senior season.

Academically, Elliott was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll twice while at Furman University. He was named to the Dean’s List 4 times, and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 2015. Elliott went on to pursue an M.B.A at the University of Florida and graduated Cum Laude in the fall of 2016. Elliott is currently enrolled at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a graduate degree in Intelligence Analysis. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Elliott currently works for the U.S. Department of Justice.

 

Assistant Coach(JV Coach)-Jared Brehm

Jared is beginning his first season as a PVHS baseball coach and will help with the daily duties of the JV program.  Jared is a 2011 graduate of Ponte Vedra high school and was 3 year varsity member as a pitcher/outfielder of the Sharks varsity baseball team.  He was a also member of the 2010 team that made the first Final Four appearance in 2010.  After graduating from PVHS, Jared attended Flagler College in Saint Augustine, FL where he played baseball for 2 years. Coach Brehm graduated from Flagler College with a Bachelor degrees of the Arts in History and Political Science, as well as a Minor in Communication.  Jared says “This will be my first year of coaching at PVHS and look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with the players.”
